Area Information

Magna, UT

Building on a Copper Mining Heritage

Raised amidst the copper mining surge in the Oquirrh Mountains, Magna earned its name after Kennecott Copper named one of its mills the Magna Mill. Formerly Pleasant Green, the city of Magna has always been closely tied to the copper industry. The city’s nearly 30,000 residents enjoy picturesque mountain views in one of the most westerly points of Salt Lake County.

Some famous places to visit include The Great Saltair, a popular recreation and cultural venue bordering the Great Salt Lake since the pioneer days of Utah settlement. Another is The Empress Theatre, originally opening in 1916 as a Burlesque theater for the local miners. Today, its live performances are a large part of the Magna arts. Additionally, the Veteran’s Memorial honors veterans of three different wars.

Arts and activities for families include the Main Street Arts Festival and Movie & Music In the Park, as well as Paint-It art classes and Open Mic Night to share creative talents. Full of history and an industrious people, Magna is still a great area to build a new home.
