Homestead Sweet Homestead
The first settlers of Mapleton arrived around 1870, attracted by land offered through the Homestead Act. Located eight miles south of Provo between Hobble Creek and Spanish Fork River, Mapleton is still a scenic and open place to build your own “homestead,” with new housing developments opening in the large areas of undeveloped land.
Mapleton’s Lateral Canal Trail is a wide asphalt trail ideal for biking, running and horseback riding. The trail runs from the Hobble Creek Trail in Springville and runs to SR-6 (eventually will run to Spanish Fork). Multiple parks – including Mapleton City Park, Ira Allen Park, Eagle Rock Park, North Park and Harvest Park – are available for families to enjoy for a variety of events.
Spanish Fork Peak (10,193 feet) and Ether Peak (7,533 feet) form the gateway to Maple Canyon, a popular camping area in the Uinta-Wasatch-Cache National Forest. Other landmarks include the “Old White Church,” the Pioneer Heritage Museum and Levi Kendall Log Cabin.
