Parks and Recreation

Jamestown Beach Event Park:
Bring your family out to enjoy a day at the beachfront park. No need to worry about pets as dogs are allowed here too. The beach is accessible daily from 8 a.m. to sunset. This beautiful beachfront park offers several picnic areas with charcoal grills, a designated fishing area where you will need a freshwater license, and an observation pier for your viewing pleasure. There’s also an outdoor rinse station and a paddle craft launch and loading space. In addition, you will find the concession facility where you can purchase ice cream, hot dogs, burgers, snacks, and drinks. This is a wonderful spot for renting kayaks on Memorial Day weekend through Labor Day. This park offers an ADA-accessible walkway, parking, restrooms, outdoor rinse stations, a picnic area with a grill, and a beach mat that directly connects the river. Please note that a floating beach chair is available for guests who request water access accommodation Memorial Day Weekend through Labor Day.

Jamestown Scotland Ferry:
This amazing Ferry ride across the James River will take you to the hidden gem better known as Surry, Virginia. There is a wide variety of things to do while in Surry. You can stop in to see the wildlife at Chippokes Park or visit the wildlife preserve at Hogg Island. Also, check out Bacons Castle for the 1600s from Bacons Rebellion and other monumental and historically enriched areas.

Jamestown Settlement and Jamestown Island:
Jamestown Island is the location of the fort built in 1607. This is operated by the National Park Service. Jamestown Settlement is a privately-owned interpretive center. The settlement is on Jamestown island but is not the site of the original fort. Both are great for a variety of different reasons. Jamestown has ruins and a museum with numerous hands-on indoor and outdoor displays. It is the site of the only British knight burial in the US. For the history buffs, Jamestown Island is preferable.

Arts and Festivals

Second Sunday:
This event takes place on the second Sunday of every month from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m., March through December. The streets of Colonial Williamsburg are buzzing with art displays, baked goods, street performers, farmer’s market, and more.
The Williamsburg community has several other festivals throughout the year. There is always something to do in an area so enriched with culture and diversity.
