Nestled Between Utah Lake and Mt. Timpanogos
Spanish Franciscan priests and fur trappers were some of the first explorers to Utah Valley, home to several local tribes that included the Ute Indians. Named after fur trader and explorer Etienne Provost, Provo was settled by migrating pioneers in 1849. It soon blossomed with numerous fruit orchards, hearty crops, and even a woolen mill. But in the 1920s, the steel industry came to town as Provo grew to Utah’s second-largest city.
Today Provo is known for Brigham Young University, Covey Center for the Arts, and scenic Bridal Veil Falls in Provo Canyon. In the canyon, you’ll find outdoor activities such as hiking, biking, and mountain climbing. Annual city events include the Pioneer Day Extravaganza, Utah Lake Festival, and Summer Concerts in the Park. Residents also enjoy numerous city parks, a recreation center, and a shooting park. Provo maintains its draw for new residents that want to make a home along Utah Valley’s gorgeous Wasatch Front.
