All About Aurora
Located 35 miles west of Chicago, Aurora is the second-largest city in Illinois. Nicknamed the City of Lights, Aurora nestles along the Fox River and the Ronald Reagan Memorial Tollway (Interstate 88).
Downtown Aurora is home to the Paramount Theater, a large live performance theater on the National Register of Historic Places, and the Hollywood Casino. The Aurora area has significant architecture, including structures by Frank Lloyd Wright, Ludwig Mies van der Rohe, Bruce Goff, and George Grant Elmslie. Aurora is also home to over 50 Sears Catalog Homes and seven Lustron all-steel homes.
The Aurora riverfront offers many outdoor free and family-friendly activities, with miles of paved trails, canoe shoots, and parks. Follow the heritage signs and take a self-guided public sculpture tour or bike down the Fox River Trail. Enjoy plenty of casual or fine dining options, boutique shopping, art galleries, and bakeries.
You can experience some of the best hiking, biking, fishing, and birding in the region at the Dick Young Forest Preserve, Phillips Park, Red Oak Nature Center, Fermilab, and Silver Springs State Park.
Downtown Alive, a festival that includes live music and a variety of food, is held during the summer. Blues on the Fox, featuring national blues artists, and The Aurora Art Walk is held quarterly and hosted by local artists, property owners, patrons, and the City of Aurora.
A new and expanded Waubonsee Community College Campus was recently built on the western banks of the Fox River between the river and IL Route 30.
