Plainfield is one of the oldest communities in Will County, located on the banks of the DuPage River. The early settlers were European fur traders.
More recently, Plainfield is known for being the birthplace of the pilot, Eddie “Turk Bird” Gardner. Gardner helped establish the transcontinental airmail routes for the United States Post Office.
