Overview
The history of Decatur is rich and storied. It was incorporated in 1823 and named for Commodore Stephen Decatur, Jr., a 19th century U.S. Naval hero. It is also the county seat of DeKalb County. Decatur offers a traditional small-town feel but with the excitement of a both a college town and a popular place to visit adjacent to the bustling city of Atlanta.
