Overview
Located in Columbia County just 20 minutes outside of Augusta, the City of Grovetown was officially incorporated in 1881. It lies on high ground just to the northwest of Fort Eisenhower, near the northern end of the Middle Savannah River sub-basin.
Fort Eisenhower
Fort Eisenhower is a United States Army installation established in October 1941. It is the current home of the United States Army Signal Corps, United States Army Cyber Command, and the Cyber Center of Excellence. According to the website, the main component of the post is the Advanced Individual Training for Signal Corps military occupational specialties. Fort Eisenhower has approximately 16,000 service members (including active duty, national guard and reserve) and another 9,000 civilian employees.
Trivia
The local Grovetown Museum is filled with artifacts and documents dating back to the founding of the city's namesake, the Old Grove Baptist Church, built in 1808.
Things To Do
There is a family-friendly atmosphere that permeates all aspects of life in Grovetown. Annual events include a Fourth of July Barbeque and the exciting "Lights of the South" holiday light show that attracts tourists to enjoy the beauty and charm of this city.
Euchee Creek Park. Euchee Creek Greenway is Columbia County’s premier outdoor location for walking, running, and cycling. It is approximately 4.2 miles long and builds upon the existing trail networks in several neighborhoods.
Patriot’s Park. This multi-purpose recreational facility supports many different sports including basketball, football, soccer, baseball, softball, tennis, volleyball, and racquet ball. There is also a gym plus an 18-hole disc golf course that circles around the park and goes through the woods.
Bartram Trail Golf Club. Augusta’s newest daily fee golf course. Located next to Patriot’s Park, this par 72 course takes full advantage of the mature hardwood and pine forests on either side of Euchee Creek. A little over 6,700 yards in length, expect rolling terrain, wetland areas and creek bed.
Steeds Dairy Farm. A former real working dairy farm, Steeds now features a seasonal five acre corn maze, petting zoo, hay rides and pumpkin patch. Visitors can learn about farm animals and even see a cow being milked. The Maize at Steed’s Dairy is approximately two miles from I-20 on Wrightsboro Road in Grovetown and opens to the public on weekends in the fall and for private events and birthday parties in the spring and fall.
Riverwalk Augusta. This city park is situated along the Savannah River in downtown Augusta and features a brick lined walkway providing a magnificent view. Explore the Japanese Gardens and Heroes' Overlook memorial. Riverwalk also hosts events such as weekend markets and the Candlelight Jazz Series. Plus, the Jessye Norman Amphitheater, an 1,800 seat venue, is located at the end of the 9th Street Plaza.
